The Norwegian Veterinary Institute contributes to safer milk in Malawi

The Norwegian Veterinary Institute is on a project visit in Malawi from October 12th to 18th, 2024, as part of the project "One Health – Controlling Zoonotic Diseases and antibiotic resistance (AMR) in the Milk Value Chain in Malawi, Ethiopia, and Tanzania". The project started at the end of 2022 and is funded under an agreement between Norad and the Norwegian Veterinary Institute. The goal of the project is to combat zoonoses, or diseases transmitted between animals and humans, and to reduce antibiotic resistance in milk production.

-The purpose of this visit is to introduce the new project management to national partners, strengthen organisational relations and trust after a longer break in the project work. In addition, it is essential to be informed about other ongoing projects, including activities led by FAO (the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), to explore opportunities for collaboration between complementary projects, says team leader Edgar Brun.

The project seeks to strengthen collaboration across sectors, and through better surveillance, diagnostics, and veterinary services, it will contribute to safer food, improved health, and economic growth, primarily in the dairy sector in Malawi, Ethiopia, and Tanzania.
